Enjoy the challenge of taking part in a sponsored swim. Not only a tremendous spectacle on the lake, but your chance to raise funds to help Hospiscare fund specialist local nurses who care for for thousands of people every year. This year we can take entries from competent swimmers aged 16 and over.

Roadford Lake
The lake covers over 730 acres and is on the edge of Dartmoor between Okehampton and Launceston. The lake is near Dartmoor in Devon and is a place where you can walk, fish, sail and cycle, or simply relax with a good cream tea! The route and start times
This year, groups will be of mixed ability. The first group will be the elite at 9.30am, the rest will follow at approximately 10-minute intervals, with a maximum of 80 in a group. You will be allocated your start time with confirmation of your entry. The route is triangular, beginning from the shore at the Roadford Watersports Centre. Swimmers will keep to the left, following the route around buoys placed approximately 500m apart. Canoeists will marshal the swimmers, with powerboats and trained lifeguards on hand.
Sign-in on the day
We are using a chipping system this year which will time each individual swimmer. Details on signing in will be confirmed closer to the time. You must enter before Monday 6th September. No entries will be taken on the day.
Elite swimmers race
The Elite Race will start before the One-Mile Challenge. To qualify as an elite swimmer you must be able to swim a mile in under 25mins. If you are an elite swimmer we will send you a pack of information before the day with instructions.
Wetsuits or body suits
These are strongly recommended, particularly if this is your first open water swim. They can be hired from www.ironbridgerunner.co.uk call 01392 436383 or www.triuk.com call 01935 414142. Both companies are kindly donating £1 from every wetsuit hired to Hospiscare. When ordering through TRIUK please insert the code HC251010 on to the website or tell them that you are swimming the One Mile Swim when ordering over the phone.
Please note: if the water temperature drops below 15.5ºC, wetsuits will be mandatory. Please check this website prior to the swim for temperature information.

Photos
This year Maxam photography are supporting the event and will be taking photos of swimmers in the water that you can then buy online after the event. Hospiscare will receive a percentage from each photo purchased.
